Being engaged is so fun. I seriously recommend it. All the support & kind encouragement that comes from friends & family is overwhelming. Kyle and I are certainly taking our time with our engagement & really soaking it in. One of the perks of being engaged is having the distinct opportunities of doing an engagement session. I find that, initially, many couples have doubts about scheduling an engagement session, even when it's something that comes complimentary with their wedding package. So, without further ado, here are 5 reasons you should schedule your engagement session! 1. The engagement session allows time for just the two of you. Although you might be living together & probably spend most weekends together it's still important to set aside time for just you two. The engagement session is like a date, only better! During an engagement session, the focus has to be on the two of you & how you show your affection for one another. Engagement sessions force you to spend a block of time with each other that you otherwise wouldn't have scheduled for yourselves. It's so easy to get caught up in the details of the wedding. Let your engagement session bring you back to what it's really all about. Just you two.
2. You'll have your work cut out for you! We are so awkward in front of the camera! I cannot tell you how often I hear couples say this. More often than not, it's the bride telling me how much her groom hates getting his picture taken. In all honesty, I am not always comfortable on the other side of the camera any more than you are! However, this is the time to GET comfortable! Couples often surprise themselves on the day of the engagement session. Once the images come back, you may be surprised at how photogenic you had no idea you were! This will give you the confidence you need on the big day to relax & trust yourself in front of the camera! And let's face it, you don't need one more thing to stress you out on your wedding day, do you??
3. By booking an engagement session, you're giving yourselves time to create a relationship with someone who will be by your side 99% of your wedding day; your photographer! It's great to have a sense of friendship before the day of your wedding to really get to see how your photographer works so you're able to be more comfortable in front of him/her on your big day. The more comfortable your are, the better your images will turn out. The better your images turn out, the happier you'll be over all your photographer (and really, that's all we want at the end of your day).
4. You can use your engagement session images to add another personal touch on your wedding day. Take the guest book sign-in frame for example. You'll want to put something in that frame that you'll cherish for years to come. Not, that picture of the two of you on someone's dorm room couch at college in your guestbook frame! Why not use a gorgeous image from your engagement session? Or, you could easily make a guest book of your own on your Mac & have people sign it yearbook style! What about table tents? C'mon, you know you're Pinning this stuff, now all you need are the images to do it!
5. The time of your engagement is fleeting. It's only temporary (though for some, it doesn't feel that way). It's just as important to commemorate this exciting time in your life as the wedding day. You're marking the very beginning of your lives together & the excitement that goes into it. Use your engagement session to remind yourselves of this. Stop & take a minute to enjoy it. To enjoy the process. To enjoy each other.
