You've had your baby shower, all of his clothes are washed & folded in his brand new dresser. Tiny pants and t-shirts hang high on mini-hangers in his closet. Your bag is packed for the hospital & now all you need is baby. I imagine this is one of the most exciting times in your entire life. Imagining who he'll take after. Is all that heart-burn you've been having because he has so much hair? You can't wait to find out & time seems to be standing still as you await his arrival. Now is the time to be thinking about scheduling a newborn session if you haven't already. If you have doubts or are wondering if it's worth it, here are a few reasons why you shouldn't pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity. 1. Newborns change so fast. Little ones look different almost every day & grow so quickly. Ideally, it's best to schedule your newborn session while your baby is less than two weeks old. During this stage, your baby will still be sleepy enough to be put into all kinds of adorable poses.
2. Infant photography is not what it used to be! Before, most people got a mug shot of their baby who (often times) was crying. Not anymore! Now you have skilled professionals who know how to handle a crying infant to make sure you get the best shots possible of your precious little one.
3. You might be concerned about taking your baby out in the elements for the newborn session. Almond Photography works exclusively on-location at your home for your newborn session. I love photographing newborns at home with their parents in such an intimate & personal setting. What wonderful memories you'll create in that home & what better way to commemorate those times than a photo session?
4. But, I didn't have a newborn session with my other kids, I don't feel right about doing it now. It seems unfair. While I understand where this point of view comes from, this is no reason to deprive yourself from doing a newborn session with the new baby. You may not have had the opportunity when your other children were born; maybe you didn't know of a photographer that does in-home newborn sessions at the time. Or maybe your finances weren't what they are now & you couldn't afford it. You can always incorporate the older children during the shoot to make sure they feel included. Plus, let's be honest, do you think the older children will really feel slighted? Now, I'm sure if you bought this one a car & not the others, you may hear some complaining then!
5. My husband bought a new digital camera, so we will have tons of pictures of our own! Having a new baby is a great reason to upgrade your digital camera. However, you must not look at it as a replacement for a professional. Professional photographers know how to use light & a camera to their best advantage to obtain a quality image that you'll cherish for many years to come.
Truthfully, newborn sessions are my favorite things to photograph. Don't misunderstand; I love the excitement of a wedding & capturing the couple as they begin their lives together. But there is a something so genuine about the way a parent looks at their child. There's no faking or mimicking; it's nature's true example of love at first sight.
